John's uniqueness is that his books only contain stories that he has found for himself via email, personal interviews, and site visits. Another appealing fact is that most of his stories (including those about his own youth) happen in the "Bridgerland" region of the Western US.
Whether or not these tales relate something that "really happened" or not, their direct style and brevity, their plain-spoken yet uncanny power, are effortless and very appealing.

I picked up this book after listening to an interview with Olsen on IntoTheFrayRadio and picked up the book. It's a great series of stories covering the gamut of . . . well, strange things. Well written, a quick read, and just an amazing collection of people's encounters with some really weird stuff.
Definitely worth it to buy and enjoy! I am pleased to see there are two more books in his arsenal!

These story's are amazing...I love reading about what people are seeing! The skeptics don't believe it...but if all these people were making this stuff up, that would be an even more fascinating story...why would they make it up? This book and the other two give personal accounts of paranormal activity as well as cryptid sightings that people are witnessing...the truth is definitely scarier than something a person could ever make up. I know I'll never go in the woods without being armed...and certainly not camp alone ever again!
